Amateur callsign KD8PRQ · CB handle CAN DO 209 · Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran · Civil Air Patrol Captain

Squall Voss was born July 17, 1980, in Escanaba, Michigan. In 1986 he sat down at a Tandy TRS-80 — his first computer — and that is where the work began. Machines have been the through-line ever since.

He served in the U.S. Army from August 2, 2000 to April 21, 2004. After discharge he went on the road as a truck driver and built his own company, Inland Logistics. Even then the spare hours went to computers, often from the highway as much as from a desk.

In 2010, war injuries ended that chapter as CEO. He sold the company. The next year he enrolled at Bay College for Information Technology, earned Microsoft certifications across the board, and took his amateur radio license. The same injuries cut the schooling short.

He opened a computer-repair shop that ran from residential desks to enterprise jobs, and installed security systems for businesses around home.

In Civil Air Patrol he served as a Captain for the Upper Peninsula Region as Director of Information Technology and Director of Research and Development. He built the largest network in the U.P. Region — codename Leviathan — and became aircrew and a commander. That Information Technology Officer Master rating, with emergency services and radio communications, ran from 2011 through 2025.

In 2026 he came back to CB and ham radio and found there was not one program that was both simple and actually useful at the operating desk. So he built Moonraker Logbook®: a one-stop station tool for logging, solar weather, maps, and the rest of the shack. The hope is that once people try it, they see how streamlined that work can be.
